Next Event in Germany

Hi, I’m Lucas! I’m an events producer for the DMC Collective. Let me introduce you to my incredible Country…Germany

Alps in the south, sea in the north, variety in between. That is Germany. The country that is the biggest victim to the “just work and no fun” stereotype, is way more than that. It is so diverse in nature, culture and food. Did you know that every of the 16 states has its own traditional pastry? That every village has its own festivity, dating many centuries ago? But the most positively shocking fact – almost every of the 16 German states is home to a car brand. Impressive.

If we were to imagine the country as a car, Bavaria would be the engine, the biggest car manufacturers are still having their headquarters there, Sachsen, the area whose capital is Dresden is best described as brakes, Baden-Württemberg aka Stuttgart tires. The industry is huge there, and they move a lot in the country. Frankfurt (Hessen) is the oil, the euro statue in one of the central squares  says it all. Dusseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, Bonn – they all belong to one state, so much going on there, so let’s assign this one as the dashboard. Hamburg, as the biggest port, doors, and of course Berlin is the air filter, so windy and eco-friendly. There are nine more to add, but it would be an endless overthinking round of, which one is taking the lights, which one has the turn signal, and what about the wipers?

Fun game to play, where everyone has their own theory.

Probably the most underestimated country when it comes to making holidays, luckily when it comes to doing business, it is always in the upper part of the list. According to the AMI (Association Meetings International Magazine) research, 4 German cities were ranked among the  top 15 in the world. The criteria was based on exhibit space available, variety and number of hotel rooms and  rates, distance to airport, number of direct flights, and safety. The overall winner: Germany.

The ultimate winner, Frankfurt, stands face to face with Las Vegas, but in terms of safety it is way above. Luckily the criteria didn’t include weather conditions, but Frankfurt still has better weather compared to most of the cities in Germany. Why choose Frankfurt? It is one of the rare cities in Europe that has the cosmopolitan vibe, therefore the title Europe’s smallest Metropolis. Frankfurt has up to 200 convention and meeting centers, ranging from timeless, to modern, industrial or historical, with a capacity of 5.000 people.

The metropolis on the Rhine river, one of the most important business and science locations in the country – Dusseldorf. With outstanding MICE infrastructure, providing a special vibe between traditional culture and metropolitan flair. Known as the 10 minutes city, not only because you can reach any point within the blink of an eye, but also the connections to many of the European capitals are great. Even if small, there are more than 100 event venues in the city – splendid conference hotels on the river, magnificent event locations, and a rich database of event suppliers. Not convinced yet? Definitely not least, Stuttgart. Surrounded by vineyards and woodlands, but also being close to the French and Swiss border, this city has the perfect location. The people of Stuttgart are describing themselves as free thinkers and hard workers, I would add oriented to details, lets not forget that the area is the home of the cuckoo clock. When it comes to organizing events, the city specializes in fairs and congresses. The two most famous MICE venues: The Trade Fair Center and the International Congress Center, are located right in front the entrance of the airport, convenient as nowhere else.

Taking a deeper look into the country, one can tell that every state is an adventure on its own. Nature and castles, hills and lakes, old towns and cobblestone roads, can we tell that the country has it all? Well, most of everything that is  important. Bavaria is famous for the hiking trails and crystal clear lakes, the southern part of the country doesn’t lack castles and palaces either. Going to the east in the woods around Dresden, there are endless picturesque routes dating from the 18th century and their names are already inviting, for example: the painters route.  The city looks like an open gallery too. In the central and the west part there is vast beauty in the shape of cobblestoned old towns, with colorful houses and artisan shops and majestic squares,  a history book in front of your eyes. And the north has the sea, Baltic or North equality gorgeous. No wonder Germans do extremely active holidays.

Another stereotype says German cuisine is uniform and boring, but those are the ones that haven’t tried it all. First and most important: the German bread, accent on the pretzel. Always add extra butter to yours. The Käsekuchen, literal translation is cheese cake, but never say that out loud. According to Germans it has nothing to do with the New York style cheesecake, and yes, the German one is better. Tried and tested. Every beer garden dish. Simply, everything tastes better there. The meat is juicier, the sausages are tastier and even the boiled potato gets better. it might sound cliche, but never skip a beer garden. On the even better side, the expats are recreating their traditional dishes in a  German way. Interesting, provoking and with a twist. Diversity in options is getting stronger and stronger here, no wonder Germany is ranked 3rd in Europe by the number of restaurants with a Michelin star.
