Four US Event Destinations For a
Return to Live Events

March 29, 2022

As vaccine roll outs continue around the world, more and more companies are looking at a return to live events. It’s been a hectic eighteen months, and the events industry has been hit by the pandemic hard indeed. Now, at last, the worldwide events industry is grinding back into action equipped with a whole lot more knowledge about COVID and how to run safe in-person events. And there’s certainly an appetite to return to events from the general public, too. In fact, a Turning Stone’s survey found the following data insights:

  • 92% miss attending live entertainment and events
  • 73% are eager to attend live events again
  • 65% are willing to travel more than 120 miles to attend live events

So, there’s the demand and the means – but where should your next event be? The US has long been a popular destination choice for events organisers. With a plethora of metropolitan cities and gorgeous coastal locations, it has an abundance of choice for every kind of event you could possibly imagine. We’ve put together four great destination ideas which could just provide the perfect location for your next event.

Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. has long held appeals to event’s organisers around the world, and COVID has done nothing to change that. Naturally, as a capital city, Washington has historic appeal – not to mention an abundance of venue choices. Plus, with over 120 hotels to choose from and two airports to boot, accommodating attendees is simple and flexible. What more could you want?

Things to know: Vaccine uptake has been widespread in Washington D.C. and visitors will be required to prove a negative COVID-19 test taken 1-3 days before visiting.

Chicago

Chicago is often referred to as the Windy City, and event’s organisers are sure to be blown away by the huge number of convention centres available in the city. With five in total, Chicago is something of a convention centre capital! Like Washington D.C., it too has two airports one of which held the title of best North America airport for nearly a decade. This city is also a great destination if you’re conscious about running carbon natural or negative events, with plenty of environmentally-friendly venues and vendors to pick from.

Things to know: Chicago’s Department of Public Health announced a new indoor mask mandate in August for indoor venues due to rising case numbers. However, as it is advisable to mandate masks at live events anyway, this shouldn’t pose any serious issues to future live events in the city.

New Orleans

New Orleans is one of the most unique cities in all of America. The home of great jazz and live music, this beautiful city – sometimes dubbed “Big Easy” – is also home to a whole range of great venues full of character. Few cities are as sure to make a mark on delegates and sponsors alike, with just over 100 hotels to work with and venue spaces ranging from the iconic New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Centre to smaller, intimate spaces to boot – this destination offers both quality and quantity.

Things to know: Any event attendees will be required to show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, or, evidence of a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours before entry.

Miami

The sun is always shining in this gorgeous city. World famous for its beautiful beaches and towering palm trees, Miami isn’t just lovely on the outside – it also has a range of world-renowned event venues. The city is packed with hotels ranging from budget options to luxury, high-end boutique choices. Miami International Airport is the tenth biggest airport in the world with over 100 airline carriers, making travel from a variety of locations incredibly feasible (even when drawing in delegates from around the world). With events already in the pipeline in Miami for this upcoming autumn, get in touch to hear more about why Miami might be the perfect choice for your next event.

Things to know: Anyone seeking to host an event in Miami will be required to submit a COVID-19 Special Event Safety Plan in order to get the permit required by the city for events.
